Sandy Lane’s History
The original homestead was the showcase of John Denny, a prominent industrialist in the mid 1800’s. On the property was Mr. Denny’s main house, and below the hill on the Saugeen River was a grist mill for flour production, as well as a tavern and hotel.
Over the years the property fell into disrepair until it was discovered in 2004 by Heather and Stephen Hunter whose family roots were set in the surrounding areas. Recognizing the beauty of the surroundings and the desire to bring the house and barn back to life, the current owners spent five years lovingly restoring the natural beauty of both the property and home. The original elements of the home were carefully saved, including the original wide planked pine flooring, stain glass windows and spectacular 12-foot ceilings with punched tin roof in the parlour.
The house has been declared a historical site and has been awarded the distinction of one of the first homesteads in Southampton.
The Sandy Lane Farm has a long and colourful history.....set on the shores of the Saugeen River, the beautiful natural surroundings set the stage to create your memories.
